NYC Asbestos Defendants Threaten To Blow Up '96 Agreement

Law360, New York (November 5, 2013, 7:21 PM EST) -- Companies facing asbestos claims in New York City told a court on Thursday that if it allows plaintiffs to pursue punitive damages, the companies will withdraw their support for the order that has governed the litigation for nearly two decades.

A group of plaintiffs in the long-running litigation asked the court in July to allow them to seek punitive damages from defendants such as Crane Co. and Domco Products Texas LP in upcoming trials. A 1996 case management order deferred punitive damages in the cases. The...
