Judge Agrees to Move SBC-RIAA Trial to Federal Court

Law360 (December 1, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- A San Francisco federal judge last week moved the venue for SBC Communications' lawsuit against the Recording Industry Association of America over its subpoenas for information on internet users.

In a decision seen as favoring the music industry, which is suing consumers over illegal music downloads, U.S. District Judge Susan Illston granted RIAA’s request to move the venue to Washington, D.C.

Courts in Washington, D.C. have generally favored RIAA’s aggressive legal onslaught against online music piracy, legal observers note.
