5th Circ. Revives Sikh IRS Agent's Discrimination Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (November 13, 2013, 7:50 PM EST) -- The Fifth Circuit decided Wednesday that the federal government may have discriminated against a former U.S. Internal Revenue Service accountant when it barred her from carrying a small knife in a federal building as part of her religious observances as a Sikh.

The appeals court found evidence that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security — which oversees security at federal buildings — doesn't have a uniform policy banning blades longer than 2.5 inches, as Sikhs have previously been allowed to wear them in such places....
