Post-Snowden Google Report Shows Data Requests Growing

Law360, New York (November 14, 2013, 4:12 PM EST) -- Google Inc. revealed on Thursday that the rate of government data requests continues to soar as it unveiled its first transparency report since revelations about government surveillance by former security contractor Edward Snowden sparked the company’s campaign for greater disclosure rights.

The report detailed the nearly 11,000 data requests made by the U.S. government in the first half of 2013, a threefold increase over the 3,580 requests reported by the company for the end of 2009 when it first began releasing transparency information publicly.
