GOP Sens. Rail Against Unions' Exemption From ACA Fee

Law360, Los Angeles (November 14, 2013, 6:39 PM EST) -- Republican senators urged the Office of Management and Budget on Thursday to scrap a plan exempting unions from an Affordable Care Act fee that will be levied against businesses, charities and faith-based organizations for each employee whose health insurance they cover.

Led by Orrin Hatch of Utah, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Thune of South Dakota, a group of 21 senators argued in a letter to OMB Director Sylvia Mathews Burwell that carving unions out of the reinsurance fee would be unfair.
