Baptist Health Pays $3.7M To Settle Medicare FCA Suit

Law360, New York (November 19, 2013, 3:15 PM EST) -- Baptist Health System, one of the largest health care providers in San Antonio, has paid $3.7 million to settle allegations it filed false claims for Medicare reimbursements in violation of the False Claims Act, the U.S. Department of Justice said Monday.

The settlement closes out a whistleblower suit launched in Texas federal court by Norma Rivera, a former insurance auditor with Baptist, alleging the company improperly filed claims with the federal Medicare program that failed to disclose that patients receiving the treatments had other insurance policies...
