Samsung Faces Patent Fight Over Smartphone Cameras

Law360, New York (November 20, 2013, 1:42 PM EST) -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. was hit with an infringement suit in California federal court last week alleging the cameras of some of its mobile devices infringe several U.S. patents belonging to a Taiwanese manufacturer of optical lenses for smartphones.

Largan Precision Co. Ltd. alleged the cameras of Samsung's Galaxy Note and S series phones infringed six patents covering the design of its lenses, and the company asked the court to grant it tripled damages, saying the South Korean electronics manufacturer knowingly and intentionally misappropriated its inventions....
