Morningstar Foods Wrongly Fired Pregnant Worker, Jury Says

Law360, New York (November 22, 2013, 2:03 PM EST) -- A Texas federal jury on Wednesday found that Morningstar Foods LLC illegally terminated a female employee because of her pregnancy, awarding her more than $200,000 in backpay and for emotional pain and suffering.

The five-woman, two-man jury returned their verdict in favor of Tricia Ratra, an executive assistant at Morningstar Foods, a Dean Foods division, who claimed the company fired her for discriminatory reasons six months after she informed them of her pregnancy.
