Google 'Hangouts' Tread On Trademark, Suit Says

Law360, New York (November 27, 2013, 9:04 PM EST) -- Google Inc. was hit an infringement suit Tuesday in California federal court by a video social networking company that claims the technology giant’s Hangouts video-chat feature steps on its trademark.

Hanginout Inc., a San Diego-based company that allows users to create video profiles of themselves, claims that Google’s Hangouts feature infringes its trademark. The company, which is also suing for unfair competition, alleges Google is intentionally creating customer confusion with the name.
