US Backs Argentina In Appeal Of Bond Row Subpoenas

Law360, New York (December 6, 2013, 6:49 PM EST) -- The federal government on Wednesday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a challenge to a hedge fund's bid to enforce subpoenas seeking information on Argentina's non-U.S. assets in order to collect on $1.5 billion in defaulted bonds, saying such discovery tramples on foreign states' sovereign immunity.

In an amicus curiae brief filed with the Supreme Court, U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. said the high court should agree to hear Argentina's appeal of a Second Circuit decision in August 2012 affirming a New York district...
