Arms Dealer's Biz Pal Convicted Of Trying To Flout Sanctions

Law360, New York (December 16, 2013, 1:42 PM EST) -- U.S. Department of Justice attorneys in New York announced Friday that a federal jury has found a business associate of convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout guilty of attempting to evade U.S. sanctions in a scheme to ship U.S.-origin aircraft to Tajikistan.

Preet Bharara, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said that Richard Ammar Chichakli concealed his identity in order to avoid detection by U.S. sanctions enforcers as part of the plot with Bout to sell the U.S. planes abroad.
