Head Of Sham Navy Charity Gets 28 Years For Fraud

Law360, New York (December 16, 2013, 7:17 PM EST) -- A former long-time fugitive from justice on Monday was sentenced to 28 years in prison for running a charity scam that took in tens of millions of dollars from unsuspecting donors who believed their money was going to support U.S. Navy veterans.

In addition to prison, an Ohio state judge ordered John Donald Cody, 67, also known as Bobby Thompson, to pay $6.3 million in fines and spend every Veterans Day of his sentence in solitary confinement, according to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.
