Edwards LifeSciences Hit With $40M Verdict

Law360, New York (March 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Washington state jury has awarded a man and his family $40.1 million for injuries he received when his heart was singed by a malfunctioning medical device supplied by Edwards LifeSciences Corp.

On Monday, a jury in the Snohomish Superior Court awarded Paramjit Singh millions for the injuries he incurred after checking into Providence Everett Medical Center in October 2004 for routine cardiac bypass surgery.

During the operation, a monitor supplied by Edwards LifeSciences purportedly failed, which resulted in a catheter’s overheating and burning his heart....
