2 Media Mergers Topping $2B Win FCC's Blessing

Law360, New York (December 20, 2013, 5:24 PM EST) -- The Federal Communications Commission approved two high-stakes media mergers Friday: Gannett Co.'s $2.2 billion buy of Belo Corp. and Tribune Co.'s $2.73 billion purchase of Local TV Holdings LLC stations.

Gannett had agreed earlier this week to drop a St. Louis TV station, KMOV-TV, from Belo's assets. That station was the only anti-competitive part of the deal, the FCC said, as it could give Gannett an unfair position in the St. Louis market. Gannett agreed to the condition.
