Proposed Calif. Amendment Would Up Tax On Cars

Law360, New York (January 6, 2014, 5:05 PM EST) -- Supporters of a proposed amendment to California’s state constitution must decide this month whether to finance a push for a referendum in November's election that would impose a 1 percent property tax on all vehicles registered to the state.

The California Road Repairs Act of 2014 would raise between $3 billion and $4 billion per year once fully implemented, the state Legislative Analyst’s Office said in a Dec. 27 review of the initiative.
