11th Doc Pleads Guilty In NJ Lab Referral Kickback Scheme

Law360, Philadelphia (January 6, 2014, 4:25 PM EST) -- A New Jersey family medicine provider on Monday became the latest doctor to plead guilty to charges of accepting bribes to refer patients to Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services LLC, part of a long-running scam perpetrated by the lab and its president, according to prosecutors.

Dr. Joel Fischgrund, 60, of Livingston, N.J., copped to one count of accepting bribes before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler. Fischgrund admitted that from September 2012 to March 2013, BLS paid him $1,500 a month under a sham consulting agreement for referring...
