Supreme Court Agrees To Take Aereo Streaming TV Case

Law360, New York (January 10, 2014, 6:20 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court said Friday it would hear an appeal from the nation's broadcasters over Aereo Inc.'s controversial online television service, setting the stage for final resolution of a long-running copyright dispute that has big implications for the economics of television.

Aereo, as well as copycat service FilmOn X, use banks of tiny antennas to retransmit TV signals to individual users, a quirky system they claim allows them to avoid paying copyright royalties. The networks call it theft, but lawsuits aimed at shutting down both services have met varying success, leading them to ask for high court review in October....
