Writers Claim Fox Sitcom 'New Girl' Is A Ripoff

Law360, New York (January 17, 2014, 4:36 PM EST) -- A pair of writers filed suit against the creators and producers of Fox’s hit TV show “New Girl” in California federal court Thursday, alleging the show is a blatant copy of a pilot they wrote and shopped to networks years earlier.

Stephanie Counts and Shari Gold lodged copyright infringement claims against “New Girl” creator Elizabeth Meriwether and her agent William Morris Endeavor Entertainment LLC, producer Peter Chernin, producer and director Jacob Kasdan and 21st Century Fox Inc., which broadcasts the show.
