Coburn To Step Down At End Of Year Amid Cancer Fight

Law360, Washington (January 17, 2014, 5:46 PM EST) -- Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Ranking Member Tom Coburn, R-Okla., who also sits on the Senate Intelligence and Banking committees, announced Thursday he will leave Congress at the end of 2014, joining a wider exodus of lawmakers who have recently chosen to step down.

The senator, whose ongoing fight with prostate cancer has caused him to be periodically absent from the Senate floor, said the decision had come after “much prayer and consideration” and was not directly about his health.
