Verizon Releases Law Enforcement Data Request Numbers

Law360, New York (January 22, 2014, 4:44 PM EST) -- Making good on a promise to be more forthcoming about data requests it receives from government agencies, Verizon Communications Inc. said Wednesday that federal, state and local law enforcement officials submitted about 320,000 requests for customer information in 2013.

In December, the company said it would publish a report providing the data, similar to other giants like Facebook Inc., Apple Inc. and Google Inc., just weeks after rejecting shareholder demands for more transparency about its cooperation with the U.S. government in national security investigations.
