UK High Court Tosses High-Speed Rail Project Appeal

Law360, New York (January 22, 2014, 6:50 PM EST) -- The U.K. Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed an appeal challenging a government plan to promote a high-speed rail link from London to northern England, finding that the project did not require a strategic environmental assessment.

The U.K. Department of Transport unveiled its plans for the high-speed rail, known as HS2, in January 2013, a year after initially announcing the project, and said in March that it planned to move forward with the project despite lingering legal questions as to whether it required a new environmental assessment....
