Ex-Lions Star Hits NFL, Riddell With Concussion Suit

Law360, New York (January 29, 2014, 9:04 PM EST) -- Former Detroit Lions star Jahvid Best on Tuesday sued the NFL and helmet maker Riddell Inc. over concussions he allegedly sustained while playing for the league, accusing the NFL of downplaying the health risks from impacts sustained during the games.

In a complaint filed in Michigan state court, Best argued that the league endorses a certain level of aggressiveness in the game that sometimes leads to concussions, despite knowing that such repeated blows could pose long-term health risks, including chronic traumatic encephalopathy and dementia.
