DOD Proposes To Change How It Pays Afghani Contractors

Law360, Washington (January 30, 2014, 6:21 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Defense on Thursday said it is proposing to amend its defense contracting procedures to allow certain Afghanistan-based contractors to be paid in local currency, while saying contract bids will still be made in U.S. dollars.

The DOD said in a Federal Register notice that it’s proposing to amend the Defense Federal Acquisition Supplement to incorporate a new payment practice for contracts in Afghanistan. Afghani contractors who bank locally will now be paid in Afghan currency.
