Medicare Bans New Suppliers In High-Fraud Areas

Law360, New York (January 30, 2014, 7:06 PM EST) -- Federal regulators on Thursday temporarily banned new home-health agencies and ambulance suppliers in major parts of Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Texas from enrolling in Medicare and Medicaid, greatly expanding their use of anti-fraud tools included in the Affordable Care Act.

The six-month moratoria will apply to home-health companies in numerous counties that include the cities of Fort Lauderdale, Detroit, Dallas and Houston. Existing moratoria also are being extended for another six months on home health providers in Chicago and Miami.
