Fla. Bill Eyes Ban On Gaming Industry Campaign Donations

Law360, Miami (February 6, 2014, 6:59 PM EST) -- With Florida lawmakers pondering an expansion of gambling in the state, including the possibility of allowing large-scale casinos in South Florida, Sen. Gwen Margolis, D-Miami, is looking to ensure that their decisions are not unduly influenced by gaming interests.

Margolis on Wednesday introduced S.B. 848, the Public Confidence in Gaming Act, which would bar anyone seeking or holding a license for pari-mutuel gaming from making campaign contributions to any state lawmaker, the governor, his cabinet or political action committees connected to office holders or candidates....
