Google Loses Bid For Retrial Of SimpleAir's Patent Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (February 10, 2014, 9:54 PM EST) -- A Texas federal judge rejected Google Inc.’s request for a new trial over whether its smartphones and tablets infringed a SmartAir Inc. network messaging patent, ruling Monday that even though a jury could not agree on damages, its infringement verdict against Google was valid.

U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap granted SmartAir’s motion for entry of partial judgment and a new trial on damages, denying Google’s motion for an entirely new trial. Google had claimed that SimpleAir used several infringement theories that would result in different damages...
