Kansas Governor Vetoes Plan For New Coal Plants

Law360, New York (March 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed a bill on Friday that would have allowed Sunflower Electric Power Corp. to construct two coal-fired power plants in the southwestern portion of the state.

“We know that greenhouse gases contribute to climate change,” Sebelius said. “As an agricultural state, Kansas is particularly vulnerable. Therefore, reducing pollutants benefits our state not only in the short term – but also for generations of Kansans to come.”
