Calif. Equalization Board Considers Gas Tax Reduction

Law360, New York (February 14, 2014, 5:54 PM EST) -- The California State Board of Equalization said Friday it is considering whether to reduce the state's gasoline excise tax by 3.5 cents per gallon.

The BOE is scheduled to vote later this month on whether it should drop the California gas tax from the current rate of 39.5 cents per gallon to 36 cents per gallon beginning July 1. Even if a reduced excise tax is approved, California motorists still might pay the same amount  at the pump thanks to state sales taxes.
