Ill. 'Revenge Porn' Bill Clears Committee Hurdle

Law360, New York (February 19, 2014, 5:19 PM EST) -- Illinois inched closer Wednesday to becoming the fourth state to criminalize “revenge porn” when senators advanced out of committee a bill opening individual purveyors to felony charges and imposing civil liability on websites that demand fees for expunging lewd content.

Sponsored by state Sen. Michael E. Hastings, D-Springfield, SB2694 would make posting or reproducing a sexually explicit image or video of another person online without their knowledge and consent a class-4 felony punishable by up to three years in prison.
