UK Faces EU Court Action Over Nitrogen Dioxide Emissions

Law360, New York (February 20, 2014, 5:34 PM EST) -- The European Commission is taking the United Kingdom to court over excessive air pollution from vehicles, launching legal proceedings on Thursday after the U.K. missed a European Union-wide deadline to cut nitrogen dioxide levels.

Several EU member states who did not achieve the pollution reductions before 2010 were given an extra five years to comply after applying for an extension, but the European Commission said that the U.K. did not submit a "credible and workable plan" for meeting air quality standards before 2015.
