LA Hospital Accused Of Medicare Psych Care Fraud

Law360, Washington (February 21, 2014, 6:00 PM EST) -- A former Pacific Health Corp.-owned hospital falsely billed Medicare and Medicaid for millions of dollars in unnecessary and unlawful involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations, in part by paying kickbacks to other providers to provide patients, according to a whistleblower suit unsealed Thursday in California federal court.

According to qui tam relator Julie A. Macias, a former registered nurse on the psychiatric emergency team at the now-closed Los Angeles Metropolitan Medical Center, owned by PHC subsidiary Los Angeles Doctors Hospital Corp., LADHC had since at least 2004 knowingly billed...
