Weapons Cuts, Base Closures Face Opposition In Senate

Law360, New York (March 5, 2014, 5:14 PM EST) -- The Defense Department's 2015 budget seeks to close domestic bases and retire older weapons in order to preserve investments in new technology, but both proposals faced stiff initial opposition in the Senate on Wednesday.

Among the programs facing the ax is the A-10 Warthog, an older aircraft used to support infantry in combat and perform search and rescue missions. DOD leaders say the plane remains effective for now but will quickly become obsolete and too costly to maintain, and they plan to retire the entire fleet...
