Holder's Support Boosts Breach Alert Bill, But Hurdles Loom

Law360, New York (February 25, 2014, 9:18 PM EST) -- While Attorney General Eric Holder's recent call for federal data breach notification legislation adds weight to long-running efforts to create a unified reporting standard, it will do little to overcome congressional intransigence or persuade state regulators to relinquish their power to regulate data security, attorneys say.

In a video message Monday, Holder urged Congress to create a strong national standard for quickly alerting consumers whose information might be compromised in data breaches like the massive one suffered by Target Corp. late last year.
