Lean Navy Acquisitions Could Soften Budget Cuts, DOD Says

Law360, Washington (February 26, 2014, 6:57 PM EST) -- Acting Deputy Defense Secretary Christine Fox praised the U.S. Navy on Wednesday for its "aggressive cost savings" approach to acquisitions, saying its projected efficiencies could allow the military to keep more force structure during the upcoming lean budget years.

Although the Department of Defense's proposed 2015 budget includes cutting back on its littoral combat ship purchases for the Navy, Fox maintained the projected spending slashes for naval force structure are less invasive than DOD initially intended because of the Navy's commitment to tough contract negotiations....
