High Court Says Military Can Bar Protestor From Base

Law360, Los Angeles (February 26, 2014, 7:10 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously ruled that the military could bar an anti-war activist from demonstrating at a "protest area" adjacent to a public highway on a "closed" California Air Force base, but the justices didn’t address whether protests can constitutionally be halted in such areas.

Respondent John Dennis Apel was barred from the Vandenberg Air Force Base, a "closed base" that doesn’t allow civilians to enter without express permission, for trespassing and vandalism, after which he was convicted of re-entering a military installation...
