Evans Bancorp's Mortgage Lending Under Scrutiny By NY AG

Law360, Los Angeles (March 4, 2014, 6:04 PM EST) -- Evans Bancorp Inc. revealed Monday that New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's office is investigating its residential mortgage lending practices and is considering bringing an enforcement action against the company.

Hamburg, N.Y.-based Evans, the parent company of commercial bank Evans Bank N.A., said in an annual report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that Schneiderman's office confirmed on Jan. 22 that it had conducted a nonpublic investigation of some of the bank's residential mortgage lending practices.
