Novartis Sues Pharmaceuticals International Over Zometa IP

Law360, New York (March 5, 2014, 4:39 PM EST) -- Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. filed a patent infringement lawsuit in New Jersey federal court Monday against Pharmaceuticals International Inc., alleging the Hunt Valley, Md.-based drugmaker is infringing on Novartis' patent for the cancer drug Zometa by trying to manufacture a generic version.

The suit is the latest in a string of actions Novartis has brought against companies attempting to make a version of the drug with primary ingredient zoledronic acid, which treats hypercalcemia of malignancy, a condition that arises from high calcium levels that can be brought...
