Miami Beach Ramps Up Crackdown On Party Houses

Law360, New York (March 5, 2014, 2:55 PM EST) -- The City Commission of Miami Beach, Fla., started the legal ball rolling Wednesday on a rule change that looks to stamp out short-term rentals of the city's larger homes for commercial parties, asking legal counsel to strengthen penalties for repeat offenders.

In a unanimous vote, the commissioners approved on first reading an ordinance that would ban the public advertising of a commercial party or event at a residential property, but asked the city attorney to find ways to give it “more teeth” to help deter violators....
