Pop Star Nicki Minaj Denies Hearing Allegedly Stolen Song

Law360, New York (March 6, 2014, 4:08 PM EST) -- Pop and rap star Nicki Minaj and her collaborators on the 2012 hit “Starships” told a Chicago federal court last week they had never heard of the song they are accused of infringing.

Minaj, who was born Onika Tanya Maraj, and co-defendants, including popular producer RedOne and affiliated songwriters, said in response to a copyright infringement lawsuit that they had never heard of electronic musician Clive Tanaka, his song “Neu Chicago,” or plaintiff Tanaka Light Industries USA LLC, a company Tanaka purportedly owns.
