Ritz-Carlton To Pay $1.8M To Settle Gratuities Suit

Law360, New York (March 7, 2014, 4:48 PM EST) -- The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. LLC will pay $1.8 million to settle claims that it skimmed the tips of its food and beverage service employees at its Kapalua, Maui, hotel, according to documents filed Thursday in Hawaii federal court.

Ritz-Carlton will settle with hundreds of current and former nonmanagerial food and beverage employees who, in an eight-year span, did not receive the full proceeds from service charges on transactions, putting to rest allegations that the hotel chain violated Hawaiian law.
