Same-Sex Unions Include Pension Rights: EU Court

Law360, New York (April 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Nations that provide same-sex couples with rights equivalent to marriage must include pension benefits in those rights, Europe's highest court ruled Tuesday.

Tuesday's ruling by the European Court of Justice does not mandate that any member-nations recognize same-sex unions, but it will impact the many nations that do offer benefits to gay couples.
