Modernica Can't Nix Bubble-Lamp Trademark Suit

Law360, New York (March 13, 2014, 7:54 PM EDT) -- Furniture company Modernica Inc. on Thursday lost a bid to dismiss a trademark infringement suit lodged by the estate of late furniture designer George Nelson, meaning a year-old battle over the designer's famed Bubble lamp will continue.

Los-Angeles-based Modernica owns federal registrations to “George Nelson” and “Nelson,” marks it says it's used since the 1990s to sell the iconic modernist lamp shades that Nelson designed in the 1950s.
