Feds Slam Metro-North For Prizing Punctuality Over Safety

Law360, New York (March 14, 2014, 2:01 PM EDT) -- New York’s Metro-North Commuter Railroad, which saw an array of deadly and costly accidents last year, emphasizes on-time performance over safety, the Federal Railroad Administration said Friday in a scathing assessment of the nation’s second-largest commuter railroad.

The report also said the railroad operates with an ineffective safety department and a poor safety culture, and conducts ineffective training.
