GOP House Bill Looks To Cut DOD's Civilian Force By 15%

Law360, Washington (March 17, 2014, 2:27 PM EDT) -- Six Republican congressmen introduced a bill on Friday aimed at slashing the U.S. Department of Defense's civilian workforce by 15 percent over the next six years, saying the reductions are necessary to maintain a strong military.

According to Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., and the five bill co-sponsors, the DOD's civilian workforce growth significantly outpaced military growth from 2001 to 2012 and it now imposes a significant burden on the DOD's overall budget.
