Deals Rumor Mill: Macquarie, Monte dei Paschi, Altor

Law360, New York (March 18, 2014, 5:31 PM EDT) -- Top Australian investment bank Macquarie Group Ltd. is unloading its private equity funds management business in a sale to its three managers, a source told Reuters on Tuesday. Macquarie Investment Management Private Markets has funds worth around $4.5 billion, mainly invested in and near Australia. The move falls in step with an industry shift that has seen several big-name banks scale down riskier operations to focus on more-reliable investments.
