GM Names New Safety Executive In Wake Of Recall

Law360, New York (March 18, 2014, 4:39 PM EDT) -- Amid the fallout from its recall of 1.6 million vehicles over a deadly ignition switch defect, General Motors Co. created a new executive position on Tuesday to oversee vehicle safety and named a longtime company engineer to fill the role.

Jeff Boyer is taking over as vice president of global vehicle safety, effective immediately. He has served in various safety and engineering roles at GM for nearly 40 years.

GM has never had a global vice president in charge of safety, according to spokesman James Cain....
