GM Faces Canadian Class Actions Over Vehicle Recall

Law360, New York (March 20, 2014, 2:04 PM EDT) -- The fallout from General Motors Co.'s recall of 1.6 million vehicles with faulty ignition switches swelled across U.S. borders Wednesday when the manufacturer was hit with proposed class actions in two Canadian courts on behalf of drivers whose engines failed or threaten to fail on the road.

The nationwide suits assert that more than 235,000 GM models in Canada suffer from a design defect that can cause the ignition switch to shut off while in drive, potentially causing airbags to fail to deploy in the event...
