JPEG Patent Holder Back On The Hook

Law360 (February 2, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a decision likely to please many of the world’s largest technology companies, a controversial patent covering JPEG image technology will be reexamined by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted a request by the Public Patent Foundation (PubPat) to review whether the high-profile patent being enforced by Forgent Networks Inc. against dozens of companies should have been granted, in view of claims in an earlier patent associated with similar technology.
