4 Hurdles To Clear In Restaurant Crowd-Funding Deals

Law360, New York (March 28, 2014, 7:37 PM EDT) -- As the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission prepares to finalize rules for the JOBS Act's equity crowd-funding statute later this year, restaurateurs face a plethora of new fundraising opportunities.

Crowd-funding sites offering nonequity goodies to investors are a popular fundraising tool for some smaller-scale restaurants — Kickstarter noted earlier this month that it had helped fund 323 such projects. Meanwhile, sites such as CircleUp and Fundable, which cater to accredited investors hunting for new opportunities, have also seen some interest from the eatery sector.
