Uncertainty Clouds US Energy Tubulars Market

Law360, New York (March 26, 2014, 6:24 PM EDT) -- The increasing growth in hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling for oil and gas production has greatly increased demand for oil country tubular goods (“OCTG”). The greater access provided by both drilling techniques creates correspondingly greater pipe footage requirements for various casing and tubing products as compared to traditional vertical wells. After slumping in late 2008 and 2009, demand for OCTG rose sharply, increasing from 5 million tons to 7.2 million tons from 2010 to 2012, before leveling off in 2013.
